Notes: This one was fun in the sun. We're involved with an organization called Indieblast that supports local unsigned talent, and one of the ways they do this is by hosting a little sidestage area at events like this one. We lobbied for and won the coveted Dave Matthews slot, and whaddaya know, it was a great time. The band played two striking sets of specifically selected material If you're observant you will have noticed that the heaviest song offered for the night was GreenRoot. The second set was comprised of the songs from the first set that got the best reaction from the crowd, so you can see what shrewd marketeers we are. We were surprised that Saturn earned a repeat performance, but I guess it has that summery outdoor vibe and people really dug it.
This show was home to (based on a vote by band and crew) the single worst onstage screwup ever at a Zygote show, implemented by one Brian Lass. During Moot in the first set he must've got sunstroke or something because suddenly he was playing a completely different song than everyone else, AND it took him about forty seconds to get back to where he was supposed to be. Rest assured that he will be appropriately pummeled and humiliated for many months to come.
Like I said before though, fun in the sun. The band played on a small wooden stage near the lawns area of the amphitheatre, and a good number of DMB fans found their way to our stage to enjoy the entertainment. Lots of familiar faces in out there, I spotted several Zygote t-shirts in the crowd and lots of people mouthing the words to various songs. Thanks to everyone who cruised by our humble stage, we owe you guys big time. The band played great (except for the abovementioned horrendous error) and we got a chance to see how strangers react to the Gote's song catalog.
The reaction was great, by the way. We sold every CD we brought, which is the last of our most recent pressing, plus tons of compliments after each set. We jammed our gear back into various cars and settled in to enjoy the rest of the DMB show. A real blast.
