Additional Acts: none
Ticket Price: $21 through Ticketmaster, $25 at the door
Set List: GreenRoot / Nejuan / C with The Police's "Walking on the Moon" intro / Girl Next Door / Swimming In Chlorine with Guns n' Roses' "Sweet Child Of Mine" tease / The Flower Song / Fast Funk / Saturn / Weather

Rough Attendance: 800 at the beginning of Zygote's set, 1300 by the end of it, and 1800 for the entire night.
Caught on tape? Yes guy, finally. We got Zygote's entire set on tape, plus video footage of most of it, plus some bonus backstage footage of Zygote hangin' with some genuine rockstars.
Poster: Crawling Ants poster, Flower Man flyers

Notes: Man oh man. Zygote landed the sole opening slot at this Big Sugar gig, and the concert was HUGE. We played for our biggest audience to date, the sound was actually good, and the band was in great shape. Big Sugar drew large, and although hundreds of Zygote fans were in attendance, it was clear that the majority of the room was there to see the headlining act. Despite that, the 'Gote played hard enough to win the attention and approval of the unfamiliar crowd, and by mid-set there were plenty of unknowns rockin' along with the hardcore contingent.

The set featured GreenRoot in the pole position, and from that point the band surged forward at top speed, squeezing the best of their material into their limited set. Nejuan was a standout at this show, as was Swimming In Chlorine. The Flower Song bullied its way onto the set list and made good on its reputation, giving us all a good clear listen to Jer's story, Amir's rap, and a dirty ol' jungle outro. (Two notes about the sound here - 1. - we had Ron working the board for us and once again he has proven that he knows the 'Gote better than any other. Did you catch the subtle vocal effects he was working in here and there? 2. The new vocal P.A. at Kool Haüs is just awesome. I never thought I would say that about the building that used to be The Warehouse, but DAMN. All vocals were crisp and clear, not the washed-out blur that they used to be in this room. Fantastic.) Best song of the show was Fast Funk, which whipsawed along at a thousand miles an hour, the band firmly in the pocket. All too soon Weather was exploding, with an intense arabic-style vocal intro and a simply inspiring scratch solo from Ovakim.

Star Of The Show Award, by the way, goes to Ovakim. The guy is just a great big heap of entertainment up there. Not only the guitar-playing, (and don't get me wrong, the guy knows his axe better than Lizzie Borden, dropped my jaw several times durning the show tonight - Fast Funk solo and C solo particularly) but the epileptic seizures he has on stage are GREAT. Such a unique stage presence.

Big Sugar's set - holy damn. I'll tell ya, say what you want, that band came to PLAY. They played great, they sounded great, their lights and presentation were great, and they played a marathon set (nearly two hours) that featured like, ten singles and guest appearances by members of Tea Party and Big Wreck. After the show these guys all stuck around to hang out backstage, and we have some great footage of them clowning around with members of Zygote. I was surprised how down-to-earth most of these guys are - or as close to down-to-earth as a guy in a brilliant white cowboy suit can be, I guess...

A very fun night overall, our new merchandise sold well and plenty of Big Sugar fans went home with a newly purchased Zygote album. Special props out to Steve Varjas, for winning the Zygote Triple Crown by attending all three Goteshows in the past three nights. We gave out hundreds of new stickers and just had a great time overall. There will be video clips from this show up on our website soon, and live tracks may be available for download as well.

FAN COMMENTS

That was the best fucking show ever. Weather and Swimming In Chlorine were the shit. I brought two friends who had never heard of Zygote and they were going fucking nuts by the end. All around amazing job, too bad it was so short. Mad props to Amir, although the official show says Ovakim's m.v.p., Amir nailed that show better than anyone. See you at the next one... ~Daniel C

I would just like to say that I had a wicked ass time at your show at the Kool Haus.  It was the first time I was hearing your music and I was totally blown away.  I went to see Big Sugar just as something to do for my Saturday night, totally last minute.  After hearing you guys I am so glad I decided to go. Wicked performance.  I totally want to go to Hamilton to check you guys out for an extended gig. I didn't get  a chance to talk to all of you after the show at the Kool Haus so I would like to take this opportunity to applaud you and again an amazing show. Stellar live performance.  You guys have an amazing stage presence. ~Candace

Just a quick note to say how much myself and my friends enjoyed your show last night at Kool Haus. Before arriving we hadn't heard anything about you. Well, you've certainly earned some new fans. Great website to go with your great music. Looking forward to the next time I can catch a show. Keep up the good work. ~Jim C.
